hey everyone! welcome to the third episode of shit bots say, hosted by topbots. today, we're going to cover tinder bots, a very provocative topic. hey everyone, i'm mariya & i'm marlene. ...and we're from topbots, a growth marketing firm for the best of bots. we do interesting episodes on bots all the time, so simply add us by snapcode or just by the username @topbots.
How To Create Facebook Account, before we continue, let's clarify what we mean by "bots". bots can mean a lot of things. when we say "bot", we are talking about a computer program that you can interact with through conversation, either voice or text. for example, siri, cortana, and google assistant are bots. you can also find bots on sms, messenger, kik, slack, and more. today we're going to cover three topics.
the first is scam and spam bots, and how to detect and report them. next, we're going to talk about automation software and how to make your swiping a lot faster and easier. finally, we're going to talk about some brilliant marketing campaigns that have been conducted on tinder, in the hopes of inspiring you to be a little more creative in your marketing too. we'll start by warning you about the bad bots. many people on dating sites have come across bots that pretend to be real people. this is a particular problem with men looking for women. actually many of our guy friends have been matched with super hot chicks, only to find out later they were bots with sinister motives. here's an example of a tinder bot interaction where the bot starts off with small talk
and then advertises a game called castle clash. another example of a tinder bot where the bot promises a verified account, but really sends you to a porn site. and then you have tinder accounts that blatantly advertise escort services. we have several tips for detecting whether a profile might be fake. first, if it's missing critical bio or photos, it's probably not a real account. second, if the account responds too quickly, it's probably a bot. but you've got to be careful, because some bots are getting smarter. third, if an account keeps trying to get you off of tinder by sending you strange links, that's a huge red flag. fourth, if the account just seems too good to be true, like super hot and super responsive, it's definitely fake.
even with these four tips, bots are being so sophisticated that even artificial intelligence experts are being fooled by them. for example, robert epstein, a harvard-educated a.i. expert chatted with an online dating bot for four months before realizing something was wrong. other research shows that sophisticated bots can dupe humans about 30% of the time. so don't feel bad about it. if you're not sure if a account is a bot or human, we've got some advanced tips to help you weed out the bots. for example, when you use a junk word, a bot may often just ignore it and say "well, why do you ask?" or, it may even repeat the junk word back to you. another tip is to ask common sense questions about different objects.
finally, you can test your conversation partner by asking simple verbal captchas. now that you know how to trap a bot, let's focus on upping your tinder game. on dating apps like tinder, women often get too much attention while men complain about having to do all the work. if you're down on your tinder luck, here are a few tools that can automate more of your dating. you'll have to pay up for a tinder plus account so that way you can swipe right an unlimited number of times. then you can use paid apps like bonfire that allow you to like many many people at one time. there's also a service called casanova bot, an artificial intelligence that promises to "flirt" for you. this casanova bot will automatically like profiles for you,
analyze the bio, and then generate an appropriate opening line that will get you their numbers. unfortunately, the website for casanova bot seems to be down right now sometimes these third-party bots are not well maintained. if you don't want to pay for any of these third-party services, but you've got some tech skills, you can go find some open-source code to create your own bot. for example, a quick search on github shows 44 different repositories you can use to start your own tinder bot in almost every programming language. the most popular repository is this one, which is written in node.js. it lets you set up a tinder bot that then encourages users to play castle clash.
tinder bots aren't just for scams and lazy people. a lot of brands have utilized them for brilliant marketing campaigns and for social good. today we'll share with you some of our favorite case studies. one of my favorite examples of a tinder marketing campaign was for the movie, ex machina, about an artificial intelligence who tricks the entire human cast. the tinder bot was launched at the sxsw festival in austin, tx where the movie first screened. let's show you what the bot says. to many users, the bot seemed totally human, even asking provocative questions like "have you ever been in love?"
towards the end of the conversation, the bot says that you've passed her test and asks you to look at her instagram. once you get to the actual instagram account though, all you see is a photo and a video promoting the movie, and you realize something was up. pretty clever! this marketing campaign was quite brilliant because of the relevancy of the topic in the movie as well as showing how it could easily dupe humans with a pretty face. that said, marketers need to be really careful with realistic bots. you don't want to play with people's hearts when deploying marketing strategies. marketing campaigns are often pushy and self-serving,
but we've also seen tinder bots that have been used for humanitarian causes and social good. for example, the immigration council of ireland used a tinder campaign to raise awareness about sex and human trafficking in the country. in this campaign, they created a profile of a woman who becomes increasing more bruised and beaten up as you pan through her photos. her photos end with the point that as a tinder user, you have the option to swipe left or swipe right, but sex trafficking victims have no options. another brilliant campaign was done by a non-profit animal shelter who matched puppies with owners for adoption. if you swipe right on a puppy, the dog gets a big, red "abandoned" stamp all over it
definitely tugs at your heart in a single week, the campaign garnered 2700 matches. isn't that awesome?! our final example is from the santa catarina region of brazil, where over 3000 people go missing every single year. a missing persons department in the region decided to use tinder as a way to find these missing people. as you can see, tinder bots can be used for bad, or for amazing causes. for example, 23 people returned to their families. that's all for the show today we love feedback so definitely send us your thoughts
plus if you've ever interacted with a tinder bot, definitely let us know. our next and final episode will be next monday at the same time, november 28th at noon. in that episode, we're going to introduce you to the most sophisticated chatbots, the ones that have won a.i. awards and are designated the "most human" chatbots. let us know what conversations you want to start with these chatbots and we'll make sure we get your questions answered by them. thanks for tuning!
