a piece out in the daily beastabout jill stein, presidential candidate for the green party --i have a lot of mixed forth about this, we will go throughit together, then i will explain. first of all, it isclearly intended to attack her,
apple stock return rate, there is no question about that. and it is done on the eve of the election to make sure peopledon't vote for her, that they will vote for hillary clintoninstead.
i would bet any amount of money that the writer of thispiece will vote for hillary clinton, i think that isexceedingly clear from the piece. that doesn't mean it'snot true. same thing with the wikileaks emails -- some peoplesay there is credible evidence it was the russians who leakedit. okay, fair enough, we should
investigate that. i understandthere is some evidence to that effect. it doesn't mean theemails aren't true. those things can be true at the same time. maybe the russians did it, but they are still true emails. thismight be a hatchet job but it
might be true. first of all youget a sense from the beginning of the article -- >>when you begin with holierthan thou, that gives a sense of what direction you are going. they point out jill stein's investments that she has overall-- >>she was a harvard trainedphysician, her husband and her have this amount of money.
thisis kind of like a republican attack against jill stein, thisis what they do to people like al gore -- you say you are forhelping the poor people, but you have money. yeah, i have moneyand i want to help poor people. that is not a bad thing, that isa good thing. if they didn't have the snide, throughout iwould say okay, that's the investment amount, let's look atit.
but you can tell that they are like, she's a liberal butstill has money. i'm glad to see that people hillary clinton'sside are real liberals when they use this kind of conservativeattack against other liberals. then you get a sense of theattitude of the writer -- >>that seems a bit much. itwould be fair to point out, and i agree, that stein has beensaying all along, you can't vote
for the lesser of two evils. when you go in with an attitude like that, you have to comecorrect on your own positions because you are putting it outthat i'm the person you can vote for in good conscience, and iget it, she's running against those two and that's a fine lineof political attack. i wouldn't go as far as this writer, whosays that she says she's morally and ethically superior toeveryone.
she didn't say that, you are overstretching it. butit is true that justin has said things like this -- >>now, they will go on andexplain the mutual funds she puts her money into, it goesinto some of those industries she criticizes. but i want to beclear here -- those industries, even if jill stein invests inthem, it doesn't make them
right. you can criticize her forinvesting in those industries, i understand that, but if you gofarther -- there seems to be an intimation that, you see that? it's totally fine to be with war profiteers and the fossil fuelindustry. we got you. no, calm down, with look at it together,
figure out who is responsible -- >>so understand this is part ofa mutual fund. now, i'm going to give you more examples. me, ihad a pension left over from when i was at current tv. do ihave any idea what's in that? i have to be honest, i don't. sothis is the kind of attack you
could do on almost anyone. butif you are part of the green party and you are saying theseare terrible industries and you have money invested in them, ithink it's a fair criticism. let's keep going, obviously youare going to make up your mind here -- >>i want to be clear about this, the latter companies, she is in a fund, the fund invests inthem, to what degree she knows about that, i don't know.
merck, she invested in that herself. they also talk about a tobaccocompany that she has some investment in. finally -- >>look, if everybody is going tobe perfect, they would not do those investments, then theywould go and do other investments that pay -- you canjust do treasury bonds. which gets you almost no return atall.
it turns out jill stein is human, congratulations, you gother. on the other hand if you are in the green party, youmight think that's a shame, i wish she didn't do that. let megive you her statement so we give her perspective. she says-- >>that is true, and if i hadthe kind of money she has, i'm
not positive what i would do ifi was in her situation. i'm not a guy who is above anything, meaning that i'm not putting myself as, like, i've got thisthing on lockdown, i am the most moral guy, i'm this or that. i'mtelling you right now, i don't know what the hell is in mypension fund. i hope it's not in really bad industries, i've gotto look into it, but you can't
make money on treasury bonds. ifi had her kind of money -- and i don't know what degree, she isretired obviously and part of the green party now, not thephysician anymore, i don't know what degree it is her husband'ssalary and how much it is in interest, i would want intereston it, it's hard to find other funds. there are some clean energyfunds, apparently, but the daily beast explains --
>>look, if you are running acampaign on don't vote for the lesser of two evils, and we'vegot to make sure to always do the right thing and have theprincipled positions, then you say i didn't like the cleanenergy funds and i can't make money from the treasury so ijust kept my money on funds that apparently she acknowledges goesto the wrong industries, yeah, that's going to be a problem. you have to be honest about
that. at the same time, i neverthought jill stein was nonhuman. i never thought she was holierthan thou, or this mother teresa kind of figured. i thought shewas a politician. but honestly, guys, that's why i never believein this whole never vote for the lesser of two evils because it'sstill evil. the reality is
nobody is perfect. you couldmake that argument in any race. fine, we are voting for thelesser of four or five evils. but there is a falseequivalency. because jill stein has a mutual fund does not makeher the same as bill and hillary clinton who have taken in morethan $3 billion in paid speeches, campaign donations, independent expenditures and super pac money and the clintonfoundation, $3 billion given to
you by millionaires andbillionaires and multinational corporations, that's not thesame thing. anyone pretending that the same, the daily beastgives a feeling of, we got her, same thing. everybody does it,same thing. it's not the same thing. at the same time, okay, breaking news, yes it turns out
jill stein, as a lot of usexpected, is not perfect. it's your call to make on whichdirection you want to go, don't ignore the facts, that's not aliberal position. at the same time, don't give into falseequivalencies either. so, now you know. and that is our job,to deliver
the news for you.
